Yue Minjun is amazing.

...and his work is on show here in Vancouver! His sculptures can be found near Davie on English Bay. His paintings are worth checking out too. His website can be found here - http://www.yueminjun.com/
These are sketches of two of his sculptures.

Is Davie a place name, or just the friendly neighborhood hobo found near the sculptures?

Davie is the affectionate name given to Davourus, the Death God and Eater of Souls, who sits in his nest made from human bones in downtown Vancouver. May he never deign to leave his terrible perch. He is the Vancouver Olympic Games official mascot.
