"I go now to find myself, or to find who has myself, or to find someone that might make me feel better about what happened today.
I’d take that last one, honestly. I’d take that honest, last one”

Welcome to Night Vale Fan Art
"My brave Carlos stepped out into the pit, climbing down the slope. At first onlookers were horrified at his lunatic descent, then they were confused as he got to the city much faster than they expected. and then there was panic, as their eyes told them a story they could not understand, let alone believe. “Behold,” said Carlos, standing in the center of the underground city, “This is not an enormous city miles below the earth, it is a very small city about 10 feet below the earth, populated by tiny people who have had to spend a year slowly climbing the ten feet to our world.” He gestured at the spires which came up approximately to his knees. “We have nothing to fear.” Well, if Carlos says it, I will happily repeat it.
We have nothing to fear, and never did.”

Malcy's Mistake
-
The nesting chook amongst the hay,
Shut inside on a sultry day,
Dreams of claws and scaly armour,
And of eating Andy Todd the farmer.
A set of teeth replaced her beak,
Her talons glistened, sharp and sleek,
And mammals fell beneath her claws,
And squeaked their last between her jaws.

September Foreigners' Market
It was too hot, so all the trees, the stalls, and the other people melted as I was drawing them.
By the end we were floating in white space, just us and the sun, which was weird.
Also, there was no shade.

Rationale
I've come to the most challenging part of my story. There are some pretty improbable things to come after this image. Should I explain Rusty's thought processes? They are pretty interesting thoughts for a dog. I don't generally like this expository stuff. Let's see what comes naturally.

Sketch from Guinsa
Just returned from an incredible trip to the mainland. This amazing temple was definitely the highlight. It is nestled between two mountains and can fit up to ten thousand monks at capacity, although the kitchens can accommodate twice that many.

First draft of a poem for Runaways
This is to do dual service as a fun poem about ancestral memory, and to foreshadow a later reversal of roles for two of the main characters.
Its paw prints fresh in the virgin snow.
Night on the Farm
The sheep dog sleeps beneath the gutter,
its back legs shake, and it's eyelids flutter.
It runs in dreams, its head bowed low,Its paw prints fresh in the virgin snow.
The wolf within begins to stir,
A thing of teeth and matted fur.
The dreaming dog gives joyous chase.
A thing of teeth and matted fur.
The dreaming dog gives joyous chase.
The perfect dog, in the perfect place.
The nesting chook amongst the hay,
Shut inside on a sultry day,
Dreams of claws and scaly armour,
And of eating Andy Todd the farmer.
A set of teeth replaced her beak,
Her talons glistened, sharp and sleek,
And mammals fell beneath her claws,
And squeaked their last between her jaws.
Eyes wide open, staring, haunted,
A good night’s sleep was all he wanted,
So at 2am, Farmer Todd,
Got up, and kneeled, and prayed to God.
“At night,” he says, “I’m all alone,
Cold and naked, far from home.
The dark has teeth and trees have eyes,
In a strange land, under foreign skies.”

This Is Fun
They don't eat chips properly in Korea. (From a newspaper in the rain)
Fresh fish and chips in the sun on a white sandy beach is alright for those that can't get any better.

Sharing Khef
I wrote this in an email to a friend and it's as good a window into my thoughts and feelings as I've been able to express so far. -
I just want to make and sell films. The main way I want to do this is by periodically releasing very short, but intriguing films and charging a small amount for the newest one, so the rest build interest. In other words, I won't release the first until I have a second in the bag to sell. I can give the first away, or sell merchandise at festivals to bring attention to the one behind the pay wall. Otherwise, I'd like to attach it to a magazine, newspaper or comic, since a monthly comic is what it's closest to in terms of pace. One 'scene' per episode, with a bit of a cliff-hanger. Think of the way Watchmen is broken up for example, and was originally released as a serial alongside other stories.
I don't know which of these, if any, will pan out, but even if they don't I will have made a new film, which is my goal more than anything else to begin with.
There's no losing along this road, and there's space for the romanticism that keeps me going.

Episode One: Progress Chart
Well it's taken a couple of weeks to put in the last little X. These things end up meaning a lot to you by the end of production, if they survive the initial urge to set them on fire.
